How to Stay Positive When Your Travel Plans Change Due to COVID-19
- March 19, 2020

It’s a strange time we are living in right now and it’s hard to know how to cope. If you had a trip cancellation because of COVID-19, here are some things you can do to keep you entertained and lift your spirits.
Make Dinner Together
Can’t go out? No problem! Put on some music, open a bottle of wine and spend time cooking something you wouldn’t normally have time to make like pork soup dumplings or tamales. Make it with your quarantine buddies in your household or call a friend and make it with them over the phone. Here are some recipes to explore. Shake things up and instead of eating on your dining room table, throw a blanket down and have a picnic in your living room!
Watch Travel Shows
Although you are unable to go to your favorite vacation destination, you can watch your favorite travel shows about your favorite places from Napa wine country to Thailand, and travel virtually to anywhere your heart desires from the comfort of your couch! Some of our favorites are Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown or Samantha Brown’s Places to Love. Get comfortable and begin your tour around the globe from your home!
Reconnect
This is a great opportunity to slow down and reconnect with yourself and your loved ones. Spend some time meditating, go on a walk in the sun, try some stretching exercises or work-outs at home with free apps like FitOn. Maybe pick up that instrument you’ve been meaning to learn or take a stab at being creative with an activity like painting or drawing. And although you may be far away from your loved ones, this is the perfect opportunity to schedule virtual happy hours or group chats, you can even watch a movie or show with your friends. Google Chrome just added an extension that "synchronizes video playback and adds group chat to your favorite Netflix shows so you can stay connected to your loved ones during this time of isolation.
Be Grateful for the Experiences You've Had
Take a moment to think back on all the amazing things you did and places you traveled to in the past year. Write a journal about your experience or make a digital photo album to remember and reflect on these experiences.
Look Ahead
Use this extra time to re-plan trips that may have gotten cancelled. Do a deep dive into the destination. Learn about the local history and culture, and evolution of how it came to be the place it is today. Study the local art, fashion, sports and more. Maybe watch some Youtube videos of the area too to get a feel of the place. Organize a bucket list of things you want to do when you are able to travel again!
